How to store crop protection products in winter

Storing crop protection products in winter

Many farms buy products in advance — and that is the right approach. But improper winter storage can ruin a product: separation, crystallisation or loss of efficacy may not show up immediately, only later in the sprayer tank.

Temperature

Most products are stored above freezing — the range is always stated on the label. Water-based liquid formulations are especially sensitive to frost: suspension concentrates (SC), aqueous solutions, emulsions. Dry formulations (WG, WP) tolerate cold better but are sensitive to moisture.

Storage rules

  • A separate dry, ventilated room out of direct sunlight.
  • Products kept in their original tightly closed containers with the label.
  • Separately from fertilizers, seed, feed and food.
  • Use opened canisters first.
  • Keep records: what, how much and the expiry date.

How to check a product in spring

  • Inspect it: is there any sediment, crystals or separation that does not disappear after shaking?
  • Do a trial mix with water in a small container.
  • If in doubt, contact us — we will advise.

Tip

If you do not have a heated warehouse, plan delivery of some products closer to the season — we will agree on delivery dates.
