Autumn stubble treatment with glyphosate: how to get rid of perennial weeds

Autumn stubble treatment

In autumn, perennial weeds actively move nutrients from leaves to roots and rhizomes to prepare for winter. A systemic herbicide travels the same way — so an autumn application kills not only the above-ground part but also the root system.

When to spray

  • After harvesting the previous crop, let the weeds regrow — spray actively growing rosettes (thistle, bindweed) and couch grass with several leaves.
  • Best efficacy is in warm weather, before persistent frosts set in.
  • Do not spray weeds damaged by frost or drought or covered in dust.

How to improve glyphosate efficacy

  • Use good-quality water — hard water reduces glyphosate activity; water conditioners help.
  • Choose the rate according to weed species and stage — as per the product label.
  • After spraying, wait 10–14 days before tillage so that the herbicide has time to move into the roots.

What you gain

A field free of perennials in spring means lower spending on spring herbicides, even crop emergence and a better start to the 2027 season.

We will help you calculate
