22 October 2026Micronutrients: what each crop needs

Plants need micronutrients in small amounts, but without them key processes do not work: pollination, protein synthesis, photosynthesis and nitrogen uptake. Foliar feeding with micronutrient fertilizers is a fast and economical way to correct a deficiency exactly when the crop needs it most.
What each crop needs
- Sunflower — boron (head formation, pollination), as well as zinc and manganese.
- Corn — zinc (early growth stages), as well as boron and manganese.
- Soybean and other legumes — molybdenum and cobalt (nodule bacteria activity), boron.
- Rapeseed — boron and sulphur, as well as manganese and molybdenum.
- Winter and spring wheat, barley — manganese, copper, zinc.
- Sugar beet — boron (prevention of heart rot), manganese.
When to apply
Most effective during intensive growth and the formation of generative organs, often together with a fungicide or herbicide application. Check tank-mix compatibility before mixing.
How to choose the form
- Chelated forms are better absorbed by leaves and more stable in tank mixes.
- Complex micronutrient fertilizers — convenient when several elements are needed at once.
- Single-element products — for targeting a specific deficiency (for example, boron on sunflower).
Tip
Soil analysis and leaf tissue testing show the need most accurately. Without an analysis, go by the crop, soil type and deficiency symptoms seen in previous years.
We will select micronutrients
Tell us the crop and growth stage — we will advise which micronutrient fertilizer and rate make sense and how to combine it with a crop protection application.
Important: always check application rates and timings against the product label and the State Register of Pesticides and Agrochemicals of Ukraine. This article is for reference only.
