Tank mixes: how to mix crop protection products correctly

Tank mixes

Combining a herbicide, fungicide, insecticide and micronutrients in one pass saves fuel and time and reduces crop compaction. But not all products can be mixed, and the wrong order of addition can cause sediment, flakes or reduced efficacy.

Start with the label

The primary source is the label and the manufacturer's recommendations: they state what the product is compatible with and what it must not be mixed with. If there is no information, do a compatibility test.

The jar test

  • Take a clear container of water from the same source you use for the sprayer.
  • Add the products in the same proportions and the same order.
  • Stir and wait 15–30 minutes: sediment, flakes, separation or foam are signs of incompatibility.

General mixing order

  • Fill the tank halfway with water and switch on the agitator.
  • Water conditioner, if needed.
  • Water-soluble bags and dry formulations (WG, WP, SP).
  • Suspension formulations (SC, CS).
  • Emulsion formulations (EC, ME, EW).
  • Solutions (SL) and liquid fertilizers.
  • Adjuvants — last, unless the label says otherwise.
  • Top up with water to the required volume without switching off the agitator.

Important details

  • Add each next component only after the previous one has fully dissolved.
  • Hard or contaminated water impairs the performance of many products.
  • Prepare the mix immediately before spraying and do not leave it in the tank for long.
  • Do not combine too many components in one mix — this increases the risk of incompatibility and phytotoxicity.

We will help you plan the mix

Send us the products you plan to combine — we will advise on compatibility, mixing order and the right adjuvant. You can calculate the cost of the mix per hectare in our calculator.
